DR. RENÉE PIRKL’S INTERVIEW | JANUARY 23, 2017

Dr. Renée Pirkl is a clinical psychologist in Portland, Oregon specializing in sports, human peformance improvement, and trauma. Over the last 16 years in private practice she has focused on helping people overcome challenges, develop potential, and perform to their highest levels. Her clients include players in the NBA and NFL, Olympians, Hollywood actors, principal dancers from major dance companies, and others in high performance fields. In addition to her private clients, Renée is a psychologist for the Oregon project, a Nike sponsored training program for professional runners. She has been the Mindset Coach for an NBA team. Prior to starting her private practice, she spent three years with a Veteran’s Administration Medical Center focused on helping returning veterans deal with the physical and emotional aftermath of deployment.

Renée takes a special interest in working with athletes early in their professional career. Aware of the physical demands of their sport, she believes that helping the whole person- physically, mentally, socially, and financially- sets the athlete up to have a more fulfilling sport career, make better decisions, have better relationships, and prepare for life after sport. She enjoys speaking about Performance Development and presents at meetings and conferences for other professionals a few times a year.

Renée believes in giving back and supporting community. Over the last 25 years, she has coached youth sports and has sat on the board of several non-profit organizations. Most recently she accepted a volunteer placement as the Director of Wellness Research for The YOUnique Piece (TYP), a lifestyle brand and communication platform inspiring change in the world through positive collaboration and purposeful action.

Dr. Pirkl constantly pursues new information and research to provide the most up-to-date ideas and resources to her varied clients and peers. When not working, she enjoys spending time in nature, creating art, and finding any reason to celebrate life with friends and family.
